Barcelona is one of the most popular university destinations chosen by students throughout the world due to its academic excellence, location and vision of the future. Students from abroad make up 11.4% of the city's academic community in Barcelona's numerous faculties. Barcelona has been a university city for over 500 years, and its eight universities (four of them public, three private and one distance-learning) offer six fields of study in their faculties: technology, science, health sciences, social sciences, sport management and humanities.
Barcelona Centre Universitari (BCU)
The centre offers step-by-step information for anyone wishing to study at Barcelona's universities. The main task of Barcelona Centre Universitari is to advance, co-ordinate and manage activities geared to promoting Barcelona as an international university centre. To achieve this aim, the BCU creates and disseminates material highlighting Barcelona's status as a university city. It is also extremely useful to foreign students in helping them integrate into the city's cultural life and community, and in matters such as finding accommodation, tourist information, faculties, cultural activities, discount cards, grants, studies and scholarships and putting them in touch with international student associations.
